TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
All of the photos in the book
were created with Fujichrome 35 mm film
and with Nikon cameras. The lenses used
were the Nikon-D type 20mm, 24mm, 28mm,
35-70mm, 105mm, and 300mm. The images
were created without special effects
or manipulation. Polarizing and ultraviolet
(UV) filters were used to reduce glare
and haze, but no other filters were
used. Natural, existing light was used
for most of the photographs; for those
that required artificial light, we used
Nikon speedlights. Landscape images
were created with Bogen and Gitzo tripods,
for the greatest depth of field and
clarity.
PRINTING
Out of Stone was printed in the US on
a
state-of-the-art waterless press,
using a 200 line screen.

The waterless
printing process is the preferred method
of color photograph reproduction because
it reproduces sharper dots, with more
saturated color. Because the waterless
printing method produces sharper dots,
it is possible to print higher screen
rulings that result in greater resolution
and detail, as well as enhanced contrast
and color saturation. The result is
the finest color reproduction possible,
using today's latest technology.
Waterless
printing is also the most environmentally
friendly printing process available.
By eliminating fountain solution, the
waterless method dramatically reduces
the release of volatile organic compounds
into the atmosphere. Waterless printing
also reduces paper waste and eliminates
the need to dispose of the hazardous
dampening system wastewater (which can
amount to thousands of gallons per year
for a single printer).

Proceeds from the sale of Out of Stone
are donated to
development projects in Armenia and Artsakh
(Karabagh).
